Manufacturing process and uses of rubber bands
Rubber band is an elastic rubber material which is designed in circular shapes and colors. And it is used to bind materials together. These rubber bands are usually manufactured using natural rubber compared to synthetic rubber due to its great elasticity. The process of rubber band manufacturing involves certain set of phases.
- The First phase in rubber band manufacturing is natural rubber is extruded into a long tube.
- Next, this tube is inserted into mandrel which is used to shape the machine work.
- The shaped rubber is heated and sliced into bands.
Rubber band products are available in different dimensions and they are specified in various numbers to indicate the width of the rubber. For example, if the rubber bands are numbered from 8-19, then they are 1/16 inch wide. Whereas if numbered as 30-34, then they are 1/18 inch wide.Normally rubber can be expanded when it is cooled whereas to contract the rubber, it must be heated.
Uses of rubber bands
Bands made out of rubber are used in various applications. Some of the applications to be mentioned are as follows.
- Hair tie
- To aim a diversion
- Rubber bands are used to fix the leaks in pipes.
- Bands are used to tie up paper bundles, cashes and other materials together. And also helpful to cover the lids in jars and other kitchen utensils.
- A rubber band acts as wax catcher. It stops the split of wax on table surface when wrapped around a candle.
- Bands made out of rubber are an excellent electrical insulator. These can prevent the passage of electricity through an exposed wire.
- And rubber bands can be tied up in the paint brushes to avoid excess paint leakage.
- Ranger bands are one type of rubber made out through moped inner tube. It was popularly used in military.
